Saturday, September 17, 2022 marked the 10th Annual Unfuck The World Day with positive, local actions in cities around the globe. We are proud and excited that this event, the brainchild of UTW Day Creator and Producer Maike, has been going strong for so many years! Unfortunately, this year, due to injuries from a car accident, Maike was not able to organize an event in her hometown, Los Angeles, or to reach out to as many people around the world as in previous years. Nevertheless, we had three official events!
In Detroit, MI, USA, a city participating for the first time, members of three local charities collectively organized a fundraising event. In Albany, GA, USA, James Malphrus and his wife Rebecca, also new members, invited their neighbors to a community potluck, and in Rotterdam, The Netherlands, Europe, long-time member and UTW Day co-producer Valentijn Vogel and his wife Janneke threw a fundraising party with live music.

Detroit, MI, USA
Seeing endless innovative projects coming from Detroit over the past years, we believe it is one the most creative cities in the USA. Their UTW Day 2022 Event supported three local organizations: Food Not Class (FNC), a collective that utilizes a diversity of tactics to feed and distribute hot meals every week from donated food, Michigan Mutual Aids Coalition (Mimac), a grassroots mutual aid group that reduces food waste and gets groceries to the homes of disabled, elderly, and food insecure neighbors, and R.A.W.S. (Ravers Against World Starvation), a non-profit that collects donations of pantry goods to distribute to those in need.
This collective event, put together with help from members of all three organizations, took place at the Outer Limits Lounge, a Detroit rock n roll bar and record label owned and operated by John Szymanski and Kelly Jean Caldwell. Performing artists were Big Joe Hix, Robo Eko, Khrysalis, Scott Beal, Middle Out and Thug Bites, and to everyone’s surprise, a live painter, who showed up unexpectedly! It was a great night of music, food, and drinks, and not only did the event raise almost 1,000 dollars, people also dropped off a lot of pantry donations. Go Detroit!

Albany, GA, USA
James Malphrus joined us last minute for UTW Day 2022; he and his family hosted their second Community Building Potluck with music by DJ Ricky. Their goal was to foster an open environment encouraging friendships, conversations, and the exchange of ideas. — The event was a major success, and they are planning to grow it into a monthly get-together with friends, families, and neighbors to cultivate and strengthen the bonds of their community. ” We love all about this!

Rotterdam, The Netherlands, Europe
UTW Day co-producer Valentijn Vogel and his wife Janneke organized a concert at their restaurant in Rotterdam, The Netherlands, that raised money for Yess, an organization that supports 150 families who live in poverty in their hometown. And what a day it was! Together with Jensdo Records, they collected 550 euros for Yess!
They couldn’t have done it without the help from De Dikke Kees, Brian Murphy, and The Irrational Library, the awesome local music artists, who all performed for free. Valentijn and Janneke ask you to support these bands, check them out, buy their albums or merchandise, or visit a performance if you can.
They also send a thousand thank you’s, hugs, and love to Jenny from Jensdo Records, to their next-door neighbor who donated for every LP sold at Jensdo on UTW Day, and to their awesome team, Nadia, Timon, Veerle and Gil.
